JOHN A. BESSICH, ESQ., is a founding member of the firm who practices customs and international trade law and has extensive experience representing clients engaged in the international movement of goods into and from the United States.

Mr. Bessich served with U.S. Customs in New York for nearly ten years, including a three-year tenure as a National Import Specialist. Since leaving Customs, he has provided counsel exclusively in the areas of customs, international trade, and federal regulatory matters both to foreign and domestic corporations.

Mr. Bessich has represented both U.S. and foreign-based clients before U.S. Customs and other federal agencies, including the Foreign Assets Control Office of the Treasury Department, the U.S. International Trade Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. Mr. Bessich has extensive experience in conducting both product and transaction reviews, obtaining binding ruling letters, contesting increased duty assessments, responding to government audits and investigations, C-TPAT certification and defending clients involved in liquidated damages, penalty or seizure, and forfeiture proceedings.

Mr. Bessich is a graduate of St. Francis College and St. John's University School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and Customs and International Trade Bar Association. Mr. Bessich is admitted to practice before the courts of New York, the U.S. Court of International Trade, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has lectured on customs and international trade subjects for the World Trade Institute, the American Association of Exporters and Importers, and the U.S. Customs Service. Mr. Bessich is conversant in Italian.
